simple elegance

While perusing my flickr, I came across a friend's recent update to his website. Andrew's work is simple, but far from simplistic. Good design doesn't have to be complex. In fact, I've found that what I like most, is a simple idea that was pushed farthest. His furniture is utilitarian, functional, and thoughtful. I watched him working on a set of pallet chairs for a professor this summer and so much time was put in to crafting each small part of every chair. His work is simply beautiful.

Yes...we have talented friends. And be on the lookout for more shoutouts. Because it will happen. We want to showcase what the young and talented are doing, so they can gain a broader audience than just our group of friends.

current obsession

Vivienne Westwood has always been one of my all time favorites, but her Spring/Summer 2010 collaboration with Melissa is something I will not get over for a while. [The Brazilian shoe designer Melissa has some pretty crazy stuff going on already, including a collaboration with Zaha Hadid, the Ursula of Architecture.] As a devout leather lover, I was pleasantly surprised to see how much I fell in love with these oh so extremely plastic shoes:

The boots make complete sense to me; adorable rain boots like these are hard to come by and they were automatically placed in my "things to buy when i get my first paycheck" list. The Dragon Lady heels (from Spring 09) took me a while however. They seem to me as a real life version of Vivienne Westwood Barbie's favorite shoes, but still, if I had the opportunity to try them on I would do so in a heartbeat. I also get the feeling that would be surprisingly comfortable, being rubber and all, and as I imagine slipping my feet into these shoes I am thinking of all the outfit possibilities... and the obsession continues.

toodles,

ready or not

We've been meaning to get this blog up and running for quite some time, and it's about time we get this started. As the unemployed half of this sandwich I've decided to make the first move. One blog post, coming right up!
